In the Spotlight

I am a project architect at Foss Architecture + Interiors in Fargo, North Dakota. From client meetings to design team collaboration, my strength lies in communication and coordination through all phases of a project. I truly enjoy discussing dreams and goals during the programming sessions and seeing them through to realization.
My father was an architect with Foss in the eighties before passing, so at an early age I was playing with models and reviewing blueprints. From childhood forts and Lego models to DIY projects and design school at NDSU, the ability to shape the space around me has always been a passion of mine. My journey took a major step forward after being accepted into the architecture program in 2007, then culminating with a master’s degree in 2011. My connection with the university has continued, as I have held the role of adjunct professor for the last 6 years. Teaching materials and detailing courses to third year students, it has been an honor to have a small part in growing the future of this profession.
Since licensure in 2018, my career has been a diverse adventure, working on everything from small residential up to larger educational, hospitality, and athletic facilities. My certifications in green building and project management/delivery have allowed me to be part of some incredible opportunities. With Foss, some highlights have been Concordia College Integrated Science Center, NDSU Nodak Insurance Football Performance Complex, and Mayville State Old Main Renovation. I have also enjoyed working with a dozen different school districts around the Midwest on projects from small security updates to large classroom and gymnasium additions. Another rewarding opportunity with Foss has been assisting many public and community entities with everything from property feasibility studies to helping document maintenance projects.
I was honored to be nominated by AIA North Dakota, to act as our state’s representative for the national Strategic Council. This group is made up of architects from all over the world, and we gather to discuss the present, past and future of our profession. For the last two years, I have traveled the country, networking with professionals from a diverse range of experiences. It inspires me every day to hear stories from other architects, their achievements to their struggles, their hopes for the future to their questions about the present. It humbles me to be able to represent the state that I was born and raised in and help grow our local AIA’s voice at the national level.
I have been supported by my now wife, Stephanie, every step of the way since high school. Our family has been blessed with two kids, Cora (10) and Luke (6). Outside of family activities, church, and professional obligations, I enjoy time on the golf course in the summer and at the local FM Curling Club in the winter.
